Best of Best Review proudly recognizes JCE as the Best Independent Media Company in New York of 2026, honoring a company built around an unusually ambitious idea: a powerful original story should not have to end when the credits roll. Led by filmmaker J G Clarke, JCE brings film, music, literature, broadcasting, and performance together within one independent media company. That breadth, combined with Clarke's established recognition as a writer and director, made JCE stand out in Best of Best Review's evaluation.
A Media Company Designed Around the Whole Story

Many independent filmmakers work project by project. A screenplay becomes a film, the film enters the marketplace, and everyone moves on to the next production. JCE has been structured differently.
Clarke writes, directs, and produces original films, while JCE provides a wider home where those ideas can continue across different creative formats. Rather than treating film, publishing, music, broadcasting, and live performance as disconnected businesses, JCE approaches them as different ways for an audience to experience a story.
That philosophy can be summed up by the company's concise creative standard: "Stories that hit different. Make it matter."
For Best of Best Review, this combination of creative authorship, independent production, and cross format development was an important factor in naming JCE the Best Independent Media Company in New York of 2026.
Thirty Four Awards Provide a Strong Creative Foundation
A media company can have an ambitious structure, but the work itself still has to deliver. Clarke enters this next stage of JCE's development with 34 international awards for writing and directing films.
His debut thriller, Numbered Lives, has received recognition across best picture, best director, and best writer categories. The film stars Matthew O'Sullivan and Luke Patrick, with Jeremy Piven portraying the pharmaceutical executive at the center of the story. JCE produced the film with Cardinal Motion Pictures.
That record was particularly relevant to Best of Best Review's assessment. JCE is not simply presenting a theory about what an independent media company could become. Its foundation begins with original filmmaking that has already earned recognition for both writing and direction.
A Slate That Shows Creative Range
JCE's developing body of work also demonstrates an ability to move between tones and genres without abandoning a recognizable commitment to storytelling.
Numbered Lives explores a disturbing locked facility scenario involving a young man, a pharmaceutical executive, an eccentric warden, and questions surrounding a clinical trial. A Day for Losers, currently in post production according to the information supplied to Best of Best Review, shifts into a very different world. Set at MacArthur High, it follows a disillusioned cadet trying to create an unforgettable party with help from the students the school has already written off.
Other projects broaden the slate further. The Harrowing follows an FBI agent investigating the abduction of a senator's son, while Senator Smith centers on a young presidential hopeful who refuses to abandon a campaign after scandal strikes.
The variety matters. JCE is building around a creative voice rather than restricting itself to a single genre.
Film Is Only One Door Into JCE
One of the strongest factors in Best of Best Review's selection was JCE's broader media model.
The company's literature plans extend stories including Numbered Lives and A Day for Losers onto the page. Its music arm, Boy Made Flesh, combines pop punk influences with darker, bass heavy trap elements. Its broadcasting slate includes Wrongthink, After Party, and Breakthrough, with concepts spanning conversation, culture, and emerging science.
The stage project Death in the Dock pushes the company into yet another form of storytelling, centering on a man in the Nuremberg dock accused of being Josef Mengele who insists that the court has identified the wrong person.
These projects demonstrate why the description "independent media company" fits JCE better than simply calling it a film production company. Film may be central to its identity, but the larger objective is to create intellectual and creative properties capable of existing in more than one medium.
Independence With a Practical Purpose
Best of Best Review considered several factors in evaluating JCE, including creative leadership, originality, demonstrated writing and directing ability, range of intellectual property, production experience, cross format potential, brand coherence, project diversity, audience accessibility, long term creative vision, and the company's ability to maintain a consistent point of view across different media.
JCE's model addresses a familiar challenge in entertainment. Moving a story from a film into a book, music project, broadcast format, or stage production can require creators to repeatedly transfer their ideas between separate organizations. JCE is being built to keep those creative relationships closer together.
For an independent company, that represents a meaningful distinction. The aim is not simply to produce more content. It is to give individual stories more than one place to live.
J G Clarke Brings the Creator Into the Center of the Company
Clarke's role is another reason JCE attracted the attention of Best of Best Review. His involvement reaches beyond executive leadership. He is a filmmaker whose writing and directing form part of the company's creative foundation.
Alongside the 34 international awards cited in the award submission, Clarke has neighboring experience on larger productions, including an associate producer credit on Land of Bad. With JCE, however, the emphasis is firmly on original work and on creating an infrastructure capable of supporting that work beyond an individual production.
The result is a company where the filmmaker and the larger media strategy are closely connected.
Why JCE Earned Best Independent Media Company in New York of 2026
Best of Best Review's decision ultimately comes down to the relationship between proven creative work and what JCE is building next. Clarke brings award recognized writing and directing to the foundation. JCE then expands that foundation through film, literature, music, broadcasting, and performance.
The company is pursuing a model in which a film does not necessarily represent the finish line for an idea. It can become the beginning of a larger creative property, with different formats providing different ways for audiences to enter the same storytelling world.
For its independent vision, multi format creative structure, developing slate, and the award recognized filmmaking at its foundation, Best of Best Review proudly names JCE the Best Independent Media Company in New York of 2026.
